Seek
“’You will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 29:13-14a
When we search for something we need, there’s an urgency to find it. A desperation stirs in our heart… in that moment, nothing else matters.
There's a story in Mark chapter 2, where men are desperate to find Jesus. They knew Jesus could heal their paralyzed friend. Though the building that He was in was surrounded by crowds of people, they didn't give up... they went through the roof! They were willing to get to Him, whatever the challenge.
Is this how we’re seeking the Lord? Are we pursuing Him with urgency? Are we determined and committed to finding Him?
Searching. Discovering. Pursuing. Determination. Commitment. Urgency. Desperation. These are all words that come to mind when we think of seeking.
What are tangible ways that I can seek Christ?
Read His word. Take time every day to learn His truth and know His heart.
Cry out in honest prayer. Come before Him broken and humble. Ask Him to reveal the truth of who He is to you.
Listen for His voice. Listening requires quiet. It requires trust, surrender, and obedience.
Write it down! Journal about what God is showing you, so you can go back later and reflect on what He's been doing in your life.
When I'm seeking Him…
… my heart belongs completely to Him. Nothing and no one come before Him in my life.
… I trust that He works all things together for my good... that He knows my every need.... that He is faithful to provide.
… I know He wants a personal and real relationship with me... that He is God and I am not... that His ways are higher than my ways and His thoughts are higher than my thoughts.
There is so much hope in the verse above. God makes a promise to us… that when we seek Him WE WILL FIND HIM.
The Creator of the universe is knowable… is that not completely mind-blowing?!
Lord, it amazes me that You desire an intimate relationship with me. Please give me Your strength to seek You in the midst of chaos. This world and all of its trouble is staring me in the face, battling for my heart and my attention. I want my heart and attention to be completely Yours.
